Spiced Belgian Waffles With Blood Orange Sauce
The warmth of cinnamon complements the acidity of oranges well in this perfect waffle recipe. This recipe will work in any kind of waffle maker, but the deeper the crevices, the more blood orange sauce these waffles can hold!

- 2 cup peeled, chopped, and deseeded blood oranges
- 2 tbsp sugar (for sauce)
- 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
- 1/4 tsp blood orange zest
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 cup vegan milk
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup rolled oats
- 1 1/2 tbsp sugar (for batter)
- 1/2 tbsp coconut oil
- 1/2 tbsp baking powder
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/8 tsp salt
- maple syrup (optional, for serving)

Blood Orange Sauce
Prepare the blood orange sauce
Preheat your waffle maker. While it heats, combine the peeled, chopped blood oranges, 2 tablespoons sugar, fresh lemon juice, and blood orange zest in a blender. Puree until completely smooth.
Thicken the sauce
Transfer the orange puree to a small saucepan. Heat over low heat, stirring occasionally, until the sauce has thickened to your desired consistency. Set aside and keep warm.
Waffles
Make the waffle batter
